6 Ayurvedic Tips for Beautiful and Strong Hair

So you’ve been trying to find the right shampoo or find a proper hair remedy for a while now. Your hair is dry, charged with static, brittle and lacking lustre,  you have tried a lot of solutions, but all failed. You see others do it. And it seems like everyone around you has gorgeous, lustrous hair.

But for some reason, your hair looks like it desperately needs therapy. Whatever you try doesn’t seem to be the right solution for your hair.

Not this time.

Because this time you’re going to be armed with some tips, tricks and secrets from the science of Ayurveda. So give these tips a try and see if they work for you too…

Tip 1: Massage your scalp regularly.

Grab your favourite hair oil (sesame or coconut oil are a good choice) and give your scalp a nice rub. A good scalp massage stimulates blood circulation and oxygen, helping to deliver more nutrients to the root and support hair growth. It also helps with thinning hair or hair loss. Oil in combination with certain herbs can be particularly effective.

Tip 2: Avoid or minimize stress.

Ayurveda is a holistic science and it gives emphasis to your mental state, as well as your physical condition. Stress is an unfortunate factor that can cause premature greying of the hair, hair loss and dryness. Yoga and meditation are good ways to get rid of stress buildup.

Tip 3: Regularly wash the scalp and hair.

This helps prevent clogged hair follicles and itchy scalp. It is best to use a mild herbal shampoo, like Sri Sri Tattva’s Henna Shikakai Shampoo. The more aggressive your shampoo and the more you use it, the sooner your scalp and hair tend to dry out.

Bonus Tip:

Using lukewarm and freshwater is best for hair care.

Particularly important: Dry your hair without a blow dryer occasionally,  let the hair dry in the fresh air!

Tip 4: Comb your hair.

Daily combing is also important for healthy hair, as it helps the scalp produce the right amount of sebum. This "natural oil" makes the hair look healthier and shinier.

Tip 5: Eat well.

Premature hair loss and graying of the hair are also the result of nutrient deficiency, according to Ayurveda. Sesame, coconut, green vegetables, dates, raisins, cottage cheese, various types of beans, nuts, grains, healthy fats and all varieties of whole grains can have a particularly positive effect on your hair.

NOTE: Allow your body to properly digest food. Don’t drink too much during the meal - rather drink water half an hour before or after a meal. Lukewarm water is the best way to help digestion.

Tip 6: Optimize your sleep.

Sleep also plays a central role in Ayurveda. Irregular or bad sleep can mess up the body's internal clock so the body cannot properly regenerate. This is also reflected on your hair.

In sum: Good hair care is actually fairly simple when you apply these 6 tips. So let us leave you with one last tip…

Ayurvedic hair care is holistic, which means the solution lies in taking care of more than just your hair. A proper diet, good sleep and relaxation techniques can go a long way if you decide to embark on a journey of health. Take action now, even if you don’t feel ready, we promise that things will fall into place after giving yourself that initial push.

Don’t wait any longer! Give your hair - and especially your body - the attention they deserve!
